Level 2 Certificate in Child Care and Education (CACHE)

This qualification prepares students to work in a supervised capacity, with children and their families in a variety of settings and environment within the Early Years Sector. During the 2 years they will be expected to participate in professional practice in a setting in order to apply what has been learnt in a practical environment.

After successfully completing this course, you can go on to study at a higher level or go on to work in a Child Care setting e.g. Nursery Assistant in a school, Day Nursery or Cylch Meithrin.

Course content:

This course looks at different aspects of Child Care. Units of study include the following:

  • An introduction to working with children
  • The developing child
  • Safe, healthy and nurturing environments
  • Children and play
  • Communication and professional skills within child care and education

The course also includes a period of work experience in a Child Care and Education setting.

What does the course contain?

This course encourages students to develop knowledge and understanding of the early years sector. The aim is that the course should engage students and provide stimulating teaching and learning opportunities that will allow students to gain essential knowledge and a range of skills to support progression into the next stage of education or into employment.

  • Unit 1 – Child Development
  • Unit 2 – Play and Learning
  • Unit 3 – Meeting Children’s Physical Health Needs (optional)
  • Unit 4 – Health and Safety in an Early Years Setting
  • Unit 8 – Safeguarding in Early Years
  • Unit 9 – Observation, Assessment and Planning

As part of this qualification, students must undertake 50 hours of Work Experience
