Well, what a trip! It was an unforgettable experience visiting America and certainly we all want to re-visit the country again. On the morning of the 22nd of October we left the school on a bus and travelled for four hours to Heathrow airport. By the time we got to the airport everyone were desperate to get on the plane and to reach Washington. After watching three films, ate supper and breakfast and slept for several hours we had finally reached Washington airport. Our time in Washington was jam packed with sightseeing with our tour guide, Heidi. We travel through the city on the Metro and visited the United States Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Washington Memorial and Barack Obama’s home – The White House. The city’s history was very interesting and we enjoyed having a taste of all the treasures in the capital of America.
After leaving our hotel in Washington on Sunday morning we commenced our trip to New York, but first we called in Philadelphia the birthplace of American democracy. We saw the Liberty Bell as well as the Rocky Steps where Rocky made his famous run in the world known film. After having some lunch we continued our journey to New York. Everyone were very excited when we saw the tall New York skyline in the distance.
On our first night in New York we went to the top of the Empire State Building and saw all of the city’s breathtaking sights. After a night’s sleep we were ready for another day of sightseeing. We traveled by bus around the city and saw Strawberry Fields in Central Park, which is the John Lennon memorial, Rockefeller Center, Brooklyn Bridge and The Gugenheim Museum. That night we went amongst a number of other schools from Wales to sing the national anthem in Times Square, this was an unforgettable experience and certainly we gave our Welsh stamp on Times Square. The next day we travelled by boat to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island which was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States until 1954. Also we visited the 9/11 memorial and the Museum of Modern Art. To complete our day we travelled in a yellow school bus to an ice hockey stadium in New Jersey to watch their team play a game of ice hockey. Although it was cold in the stadium the game was interesting and very exciting. Our final day in New York came and what better way to spend our last day but shopping on Fifth Avenue, one of the best shopping streets in the world. Early the next morning we left the hotel on the bus and to JFK airport, by now we were all ready to go home with our suitcases packed to the top with new things.
Certainly we can say that the experience of going on a trip to America has been amazing and a rewarding experience that will be cherished in our memory forever.
